What Is SEO / Search Engine Optimization?
SEO stands for search engine optimization , and this simply means a method that you use in order for your website or article will appear on the first page of Google search pages.
This happens when web pages and other content are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users.
Now, to better understand the SEO, imagine the great number of shops in a city , and those shops sell different staff, but you as a customer is looking to buy something, of course you won't go to a random shop and try to find the thing you are looking for like a car for example. So what you will do is you will look for only car shops , by looking for the car shops only the number of shops that interest you will reduce, and then you have some specific requirements for that car you want to buy, so you will look for only shops that has those kind of cars you are looking for. At the end you will end up with the most relevant shop that has what you look for. This is same concept of SEO, in SEO the shops are the articles , videos , PDF files and so on, The search engines uses robots to crawl the billions of articles available online to call them later when needed for a search inquiry. Those are called crawlers or spiders.
So how do search engines determine relevance of an article?
Before , search engines were focusing on keywords only , and that was affecting the value of the result but now everything changed ,and there are many factors that influence relevance of an article.
So for a search engine , f the site or page or document are popular, that mean the information they contain is relevant and important. And popularity and relevance are determined by mathematical equations or what is called algorithm which sort articles based on relevance and ranks them accordingly.
When you search for something on Google search engine for example , The search engine will swag the billions of articles that it saves and do two things, first it will bring only the most relevant articles to the search query and second it ranks those results according to the popularity of the websites serving those information in the query. From this we can understand that relevance and popularity are the two factors that influence the SEO process.
